Q. Since my MacBook Pro only has one jack for Input and Output, how can I monitor what I'm recording?

A. You have to set GarageBand's preferences to use your computer's speakers rather than the Line-OUT.

Open GarageBand's preferences, click the Audio MIDI tab, and select Built-In from the Output PopUp menu. If you want to do both recording with the line-IN as well as monitor through the headphone jack (which you can't), you'll need an audio interface

GarageBand from Apple Computer uses audio loops and MIDI loops in Apple Loops format. It can work with Audio Units plug-ins. Apple Macintosh Compatible FireWire and USB interfaces can be used to connect Audio and MIDI instruments to your Mac, and be recorded into GarageBand.
